I often get asked about my make-up faves so I thought I’d do more posts that focus on that. I’m a basic-face kind of girl, but I hardly go out without lipstick. It’s the one make-up item I switch up regularly, and the one thing I buy often too. This post is dedicated to my favourite lipsticks.
I am a fan of Mac Matte lipsticks, so I have a good variety. I like the staying-power of a matte lipstick, and I prefer matte over a glossy finish.
My first Mac Matte go-to is Diva. It’s a dark and daring plum colour, yet surprisingly, I reach for it often. You can achieve a lighter shade depending on application.
Then I love Ruby Woo. It’s a striking, classic red. I find the application a bit tricky – it almost goes on chalkier than most Mac Matte shades – but it’s worth it.
I adore a good orange shade, and Mac’s So Chaud is particularly good. It’s a much warmer tone than pictured and I wear it all the time.
My final Mac Matte go-to is a great nude – Honey Love. This is a life-saver when I don’t want colour on my lips – and still want to make a statement. Being a nude matte, it highlights cracks and creases, so lips needs some moisture prep.
An all time favourite pink is Rimmel’s Moisture Renew Lipstick in Lily Extase. I think they’ve reworked the packaging of their Moisture Renew lipsticks, and I’m not sure if this particular colour is still available. I love this dark pink lipstick because it goes on creamy, feels good and has good staying power too. There’s a subtle shine to it, but nothing overbearing.
When I’m going for a barely there, pretty-faced look, I like to use Revlon Colorburst Lip Butter in Gumdrop. It’s a subtle pretty lilac colour, almost sheer. This feels like a lip balm, so it offers great moisture and I use it as a lipstick timeout!
Similar to Gumdrop is Maybelline’s Wet Shine Pink-a-Boo. It’s almost sheer, and goes on with some shimmer (almost silvery). I enjoy this colour as a nude with some oomph. I don’t know if it’s still available.
My last fave is not a lipstick but a gloss. I’m not a hug fan of lipgloss, but I like it for a casual “make-up free” day. This is Revlon Colorburst Hot Pink (Rose Vibrant). It’s not too shiny, and feels good on the lips. It has some shimmer, so perks me up on a dull day.
Here’s a swatch round up of these lip faves. Bottom to top as left to right in the very first picture. The gloss swatch is on the right.
Do you have go-to make-up items? What’s the one think you can’t go without?
